Couture To The Max
Fashion designer at the age of 4! – @couture.to.the.max

Who is Max?
Max is a very happy, energetic, and Max is a very happy, energetic, and empathetic 7-year-old. His favourite subjects in school are art and science. His personality is a caretaker’s. Everything he does from dress making to cooking to cleaning is about making people happy. He has always told us the reason he makes dresses is to make all women feel beautiful.

The Beginning
When Max was 4, he told us at at dinner one night that he was a dressmaker and asked us for a mannequin. I made him one out of cardboard and he started making dresses with string, tape, knots and scraps. Shortly after, he began to ask to sew. I taught him the basics and he practiced every single day. He was ferocious. By age 5 he held his first runway show and had made over 50 dresses! We don’t know what inspired him. It really seemed to come out of nowhere. I was making a dress out of cardboard at the time he told us he was a dressmaker, but he had never seen me sew or had any exposure to fashion. We aren’t particularly fashionable and don’t have fashion magazines or tv around our house.

When he was 4, he made a yellow velvet dress where he cut out holes in the bottom and sewed a layer of holographic material under it, so it showed through. He handmade a giant pom pom and sewed it to the shoulder. It was wild. As his parents, we are very proud of As his parents, we are very proud of him. Mostly we are proud of his determination and dedication and for what a kind human he is. While he charges adults, he never charges children. He tells us he doesn’t think they have money, but they should still feel beautiful too.

Upcoming
Max is working on a couple of new showings. One is a swim/resort line he has been designing for a while and the other is a new series of adult couture gowns. He has a million dreams like his own fragrance, atelier, and to visit Paris of course. For now he’s enjoying summer break and playing at the beach.

Fallbacks faced
As for fallbacks, they always revolve As for fallbacks, they always revolve around adults not coming through on things. We have to be very protective of that as parents. There have been a few times where people have made offers or presented opportunities then not come through. This is especially hard for a child. We have learned to not talk much about big events until they are completely locked in.

His TV Appearances
We originally started with a fairly small talk show opportunity here in LA to see if it was something Max would enjoy and have fun with or not. This first one went so well and he was so excited to talk about his work, that we started saying yes more often to TV requests. We still limit them greatly and try to only choose ones where we think Max will click with the hosts.
Max accepted a runway offer this week for Denver Fashion Week Couture night in November which we are super excited for too.

Good Morning America was a fun experience because Max just loves New York. We also met another artist through that one who Max ended up doing a collaborative piece with to raise money for a Ukrainian refugee non profit.
We are ok with interviews, as long as he wants to do them and we can really space them out. Everything revolves around Max and his timings as we are trying out best to raise him – however we are a really hard NO on reality TV offers!
